Perspective
Of Paying Attention to the Type of Radiation Imaging technologies have revolutionised medicine. A little more than a hundred years ago, doctors were still dependent upon physical symptoms mainly on the body's outside for diagnosis. This changed when the German physicist Wilhelm Conrad R'ntgen discovered an invisible radiation during an experiment in 1895. A little later the first X-rays in history came into being - such as a radiograph of a woman's hand skeleton that he irradiated for 20 minutes.
Scientists discovered then that this is not very healthy - X-rays can cause cancer. Engineers kept working on the technique and accomplished to reduce the intensity of radiation considerably during the last 30 years. However, some physicians are often still too lax when using radiation: According to the German X-Ray Society half of all X-rays in Germany are unnecessary. Also computer tomography (CT) - an impressive technology that delivers high resolution images from the body's inside and is irreplaceable in the diagnosis of a variety of certain serious diseases - works with X-rays and contributes considerably to the medical over-all exposure to radiation: in 2001, CT examinations made up six percent of all radiological examinations but in the same time were responsible for nearly 50 percent of human's contamination with radiation.

X-Ray Sources
The primary criterion for selection of X-ray sources is having identified optical counterparts, but not all do. Positions are are taken from the USNO NOMAD database and are mean places for the middle of the years given below. The X-ray flux in the 2 - 10 keV energy range is given in micro-Janskys (μJy) in the column headed Flux. In some cases, a range of flux values is presented, representing the variability of these sources. The identified optical counterpart (or companion in the case of an X-ray binary system) is listed in the column headed Identified Counterpart. The type of X-ray source is listed in the column headed Type. Neutron stars in binary systems that are known to exhibit many X-ray bursts are designated ''B'' for Burster. X-ray sources that are suspected of being Black Holes have the ''BHC'' designation for Black Hole Candidate. Supernova remnants have the ''SNR'' designation. Other neutron stars in binaries which do not burst and are not known as X-ray pulsars have been given the ''NS'' designation. All codes in the Type column are explained at the end of the table (page H76).

Online X-Ray Technician Schools
By: Ramon Mackenzie
The nation's x-ray technician schools must be able to scale quickly in order to meet the growing demand for qualified x-ray specialists in today’s hot job market. Experts believe the marketplace for x-ray techs will grow more quickly than the national average, given the increasing demand on our healthcare system as baby boomers continue to age, and as diagnostic imaging continues to improve so rapidly. Despite an increasing interest in sonography, the use of radiographic methods such as x-rays and MRIs continue to be the prevalent diagnostic tools used in hospitals and clinics. Employers often cannot keep up with demand for x-ray technician services and have noted the need for a new generation of trained radiographers. In addition, the more specialized the x-ray training is, the better the job outlook.
